Due to the continuous increase in our operating
costs and to continue donating to charity, we have taken the difficult decision
to increase our percentage on client sales.
increase will be 5%, thus enabling us to donate 30% to worthy causes instead
of the present 25%. This will take effect on items sold
after the 1st October 2015.
We have now been in operation for 45 years and
taking this decision has not been an easy one. However, we hope and trust
that we can continue to count on your support.
We thank everyone who
uses our shop, it is only through your support that we can help others. We
remind you that the shop and library are manned entirely by volunteers who
do not take wages or charge any expenses. ALL PROFITS go to the charities we support.
With much regret we have to inform you that
Audrey passed away on Friday, 28th August, aged 93 years. Audrey was
a volunteer for The Original Charity Shop and Library for more than 23 years
and worked as cashier on Wednesdays and Saturdays until just a few weeks ago.
She was born in London and grew up and worked
in various parts of England before coming to Spain. During the war she was a
driver and she also did some modelling before deciding on the restaurant
business. She spent 14 years on the island of Lanzarote where she ran two
restaurants (even entertaining Omar Sharif on one occasion), before settling in
Javea where she ran the El Horno restaurant until she retired.
Rest in Peace Audrey and thank you from staff
and customers for the hard work put in over the years, we will all miss you
very much. Here are some messaged following the announcement.
very nice lady. RIP. She was such a nice lady and
lived life to the full
Auch dear, We are
so very, very sorry to read this. I loved her "gung-ho"
attitude and we will miss her so much when we call in. Just so shocked.
At 93, people will say that she had "good innings" but I say to
get that far, she deserved certainly many more. Rest in peace darling
Audrey. You will be missed by all of us....."the customers".
RIP Audrey was a pleasure
to have known you.
I am very sorry of the death of Audrey Simpson. I
really quiet enjoyed talking to her or commenting whatever when I drop into the
shop and meet her, specially because of her very characteristic sense of
Rest in peace, Audrey.

Each Christmas The Original Charity Shop and Library, along with Santa, visit Raquel Paya School for the disabled in Denia to provide each child a lovely, wanted gift along with some much needed equipment. Each year members of staff attend this wonderful event and always leave feeling happy. Last year Estelle and Des Smith from Barx, friends of our President, attended this event and were so impressed that they determined to raise some money personally for the school. So, they arranged a 'Safari Supper' in their home village, the starter, main course, dessert and coffee were supplied at four different homes; an auction, and various other games took place, for instance a duck race in the swimming pool. Thanks to the generosity of the people who attended and paid for the pleasure a total of 1700 euros was raised for this wonderful school. The Original Charity Shop and Library were happy to make this up to 2000 euros - what a wonderful way to raise much needed funding.
Original Charity Shop recently embarked on a new venture. We are now giving
groups (ladies and gents) who are unable visit the shop during opening hours
the chance to go on a shopping spree on an afternoon of their choice. The first
to avail of this opportunity was a group of ladies from Caritas Javea, who
thoroughly enjoyed their “lock in” with a glass of cava, a get together and, of
course, a leisurely browse through our excellent selection of spring/summer
clothes and everything else one could possibly need for the coming season.
If you are a group of
8 or more and would like to enjoy a relaxed and comfortable shopping afternoon,
please contact the shop
"It has taken one year and a great deal of events, raffles and donations to be able to raise the funds for the Vehiculo Adapatado. The final countdown was one last fundraising 'push' as Sandy and the Red Cross were lucky enough to be a nominated charity by Gina Marks at The Homes and Lifestyle Exhibition.
There are so many people to thank -The Roundabout Charity Shop for their donations. The Original Charity Shop with Georgie Harvey an...d her team who have not only donated money and held the Easter raffle for the new vehicle, they have been the backbone of encouragement and advice. They also supported many of the events for Ambulancia Para Javea. The many organisations too numerous to mention. Finally, Mr Barry Roy Mansell, Provincial Grand Master, Michael Shilan and Darrell Clayton of The Provincial Grand Lodge of Valencia matched us for every euro we raised, so we can proudly announce that we have reached our target and the vehicle is ordered and on its way!
On behalf of the Red Cross Javea , Sandy would like to express appreciation and gratitude to every single person who sponsored us, donated prizes, attended our event nights and have been behind us every step of the way.
We will continue to fund raise, we will continue to give help and we will continue to make a difference."
A cheque for 5000 euro was presented to the Cruz Roja - Javea towards the Ambulancia para Javea Appeal by committee members of The Original Charity Shop and Library.
PRESS RELEASE FROM THE RED CROSS
Today Javea Red Cross
"opened its doors" to showcase the valuable services it provides to
communities in the area. At its headquarters in one of the historic buildings
situated in the centre of the Old Town, staff and volunteers provided a heart warming
presentation to illustrate the breadth of support the Red Cross provides to
local individuals and families.
Red Cross explained that they
assist the unemployed with job applications and cv writing, and provide transport
for the frail, elderly and disabled to visit doctors and hospitals. They
monitor the emergency buttons for the frail living alone. They are the
lifeguards on the beach and they man the rescue boats as well as assisting the children of the families in need with their homework and give
them an evening snack.
In particular the group were
moved to see the makeup and distribution of food parcels by the Red Cross team
to those in Javea who continue to suffer hardship as a result of the downturn
in the economy.
The unexpected highlight of
the morning arrived in the form of a cheque for 5000 euros donated by the
Original Charity Shop. This was gratefully received by The President Jose Luis
Domenach. The donation will go towards the fund set up to purchase a replacement for specially
adapted vehicle with wheelchair access and electric lift. The present vehicle
provides a valuable service to those in the community with impaired mobility
but it now needs to be retired and replaced by a vehicle with improved
adaptations for wheelchair users.
The event was facilitated by
Sandy Tsalikidis Edwards and attended by agencies such as Blu, Grant a Wish and
the Original Charity Shop Javea.All
attendees reported that the event was well worth while.
If you or your organisation
would like to see for yourself the tireless efforts of your local Red Cross
Team or make a donation to help fund the services they provide, please contact
