A NIGHT AT THE RACES
On
April 17 2010 THE ORIGINAL CHARITY SHOP AND LIBRARY organised an
evening of fun at the races complete with a four course menu, with
proceeds in aid of THE GANDIA REFUGE TRANSFORMER APPEAL.
The
eight races were presented by the “unstable boys” and they soon had
the race goers up and placing their bets. And with horses named “Dr.
No”, “Groaning Scales”, “Scaramanga” or “Wobbly Bits” who
could resist the temptation to become a gambler for one evening?!
Much to the delight of the race goers, the last race was won by
“Wobbly bits” whereas “Groaning Scales” fell by the wayside! There
was also a superb Tombola with great prizes to be won and nobody
went home empty handed. Many of the ladies present had donned their
hats in true Ascot style (see photo) and there was a prize for the
best dressed lady and gentleman race goer.
The event was a great success,
raising almost 700€
for the Transformer Appeal

SAFARI SUPPER 2009 LA DROVA,
BARX
|
FUND RAISER FOR TRANSFORMER
APPEAL |
 |
Friends and neighbours in La
Drova gave a Safari Supper for 70 people on Saturday 5th
September in aid of the Transformer Appeal for the Franciscan
Refuge in Palma de Gandia.
What is a Safari Supper? A group
of people host a four course meal in four different locations.
The Starter – Our hosts at the
first venue were Alan and Pauline Higgins together with friends
- They served us a mouthwatering selection of tapas together
with sherry and wine of our choice, to set us on our way. Plus,
of course, we were not permitted to leave without buying our
raffle tickets.
The Main Course – Linda and John
Todd welcomed us to their home for the main course. With the
help of friends we were tempted with a wonderful choice of
either, Stephen Carden’s Steak and Ale Pie, or Linda Todd’s
Thai Salmon, Chicken Korma or Vegetarian Quiche. All served
with delicious vegetables. The waitress service was second to
none, we even had a visit from our cooks Linda and Stephen
during the meal.
The Dessert Course – Georgie and
Ed Harvey held the dessert course at their home together with
hard working friends. An amazing array of extremely tempting
desserts were served (many of which had been donated by friends
and neighbours for this event) together with cheese and
biscuits, Port and Dessert wine.
Coffee and Brandy – Ann and Alan
Chapman hosted the finale. As well as the Coffee and Brandy,
there was of course, a large choice of drinks. Dave Snell
supplied the music and along with our host Alan, they prepared
fund raising games around the swimming pool, such as plastic
duck racing and Pitch and putt pool golf. We also had several
raffle prizes donated that went a long way to achieving our
final total. Thanks to everyone responsible for the donations.
It was agreed that we all had a really enjoyable time and the
Safari Supper finally ended at 5.00am
All of the events above raised a grand total of
1126 euro towards the Transformer. This was an amazing amount.
Especially as during the day we had suffered a mini
Gota
Fria and all of the houses involved had to suddenly find space
for everyone inside, out of the heavy rain.
Thanks to everyone who took part
, a very worthwhile result.
BALCON AL MAR 2009
FUND RAISER FOR TRANSFORMER
APPEAL
The Volunteer Fire
Brigade helped us raise money for the above appeal. Thanks
to everyone that helped on the day. We raised 400 euro
through the Tombola stall thanks to the hard work of our
volunteers who were all in their Easter Bonnets.
